Statement of intent feedback and LR
TYAGI, Tanish
Mark: 3
Grade: D / E
Comments for AQA:
- This is a largely clear statement of intent that shows
a good concept that matches the TV crime drama brief. However, only
inconsistently appropriate to brief due to TV listings magazine section.
- Media language elements are clear with reasonable
reference to locations and shots without the detail required for the
top levels. Narrative disequilibrium is covered briefly and
reasonably clear how opening sequence will play out and how extract sets
up the rest of the series.
- Representation is lacking completely, keeping this in
the lower levels.
- Audience is addressed with reference to demographics
and psychographics appropriate to brief. some use of theory (Blumler &
Katz) although again lacking the depth for the higher levels. Lacking more
detailed discussion of target audience too.
- Digital convergence briefly mentioned. Print section
has no relation to the brief.
Feedback:
- This has some good elements – it just needs a few
sections sorting out.
- The print brief is a TV listings magazine – your plan
doesn’t link to this which keeps it in the lower levels. Go back to the
brief and read it carefully! We’ll be planning the print element of the
brief after Christmas.
- For camerawork / media language you need a little more
depth and detail in terms of the connotations / atmosphere you plan to
create.
- Representation is missing – this is a crucial section
so without it you will be stuck in the lower levels. You can write about
how you plan to represent lots of different things – place, people, groups
etc. Gender, race and London are always popular for us in this location.
- Audience does mention theory briefly but could be much
stronger. Are there other audience theorists that are relevant here?
- You may want to go back to digital convergence when you
focus on the print brief in January.
Next steps:
- Copy and paste this feedback to your Media 2 coursework
blog with the title ‘Statement of Intent feedback and learner response’.
- As your learner response, pick out the three
improvements/changes you need to make to your Statement of Intent before
producing a final draft.
- Re-draft your statement of intent using Microsoft Word
/ Google Docs – you may wish to do this after Christmas when we have
completed research and planning for the print element of the brief.
I need add and heavily develop the representation section of the statement of intent. I need to connect my analysis to media theorists. I also need to change my print aspect in order to fit the brief.
